Franchesca is an Advanced Yoga Practitioner who specialises in Trauma Sensitive Yoga. She runs workshops throughout the year with Dr Jemma Boyd, a clinical Psychologist, who is also based at the Happy Body Project Wellness Centre. She also works 1-2-1 helping people reconnect with their bodies, heal from the past and create new mindsets.
Trauma-Sensitive yoga has shown to reduce perceived stress, and symptoms of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. It has also been associated with improvements in emotion regulation and self-efficacy. Trauma sensitive yoga is different from conventional yoga. This can in turn help the immune system, digestive system and our thought and behaviour patterns.
“My fascination with Yoga started when, like many others, I found myself wrapped in the arms of PTSD.
I had tried every conventional therapy known to mankind but had only recovered to an extent. I noticed during Yoga I could quite literally feel the trauma in my body. I noticed the more and more I practiced, the more of my body I re-connected with, made friends with, and I even learned how to start to unpack that embedded, lingering trauma. My mind totally healed as a result.
I noticed how from this connection blossomed compassion, I wanted to eat better, sleep better, move better and my engagement with therapy was enhanced significantly. All my physical health ailments dissolved away and I was no longer stuck in my past.”
